Hip Press
Plate loaded bilateral hip press.
Made to order in Vietnam. Factory direct, USD pricing, shipped worldwide at container scale. Any RAL colour, your upholstery, your logo.
Plate loaded bilateral hip press. Heavy, repeatable glute loading without the barbell rolling up your hips, without a bench sliding out from under you, and without a spotter to load it. Two independent arms, so you drive both hips together or train one side at a time. Built to Phoenix commercial standard.
What is a hip press machine?
A hip press is a plate loaded machine built for one job: loading the hip thrust pattern heavy, safely and fast. You sit back against the back pad, set your feet on the platform, pull the padded lap bar down over your hips and drive. The drive path is fixed and locked to the correct hip arc, so every rep tracks the same line and the glutes take the load. No bar to balance, no bench to chase across the floor, no pad to fold three times.
The Phoenix Hip Press is bilateral. Each arm moves on its own. Load both and push together for your heaviest sets, or work one hip at a time and find out which side has been carrying the other.
Why gyms buy a hip press
Barbell hip thrusts are the most effective glute exercise on the floor and the most awkward thing on it. They tie up a bench, a barbell, a platform and a pad. Setup takes five minutes. Most members load them badly, and the bench walks on every heavy rep. On a busy floor, the hip thrust corner becomes a bottleneck and a hazard at the same time.
A dedicated station fixes all of it. Sit down, pull the lap bar in, load plates from the seat, train. A five minute setup becomes a ten second one, the bench and barbell go back to the people who need them, and the machine stays busy from open to close. Gyms with a glute focused or female heavy member base feel the difference in the first week.
Hip press vs barbell hip thrust
The barbell does the job if you have the setup, the pad and the patience. It also puts a loaded bar across the front of the hips, which is the part most people hate, and it leaves the path of the rep up to the lifter. Drift forward, roll the bar, lose the arc, and the load leaks out of the glutes and into the lower back.
The hip press locks the arc. The padded lap bar sits where a barbell would, minus the bar digging in. The back pad and foot platform adjust for leg length, so a short member and a tall member both get the right hip angle at the bottom. Plates go on from a seated position, so there is no spotter needed to load and no bar to lift into place. The result is heavier, cleaner glute work with less setup and less risk.
Bilateral hip press vs single lever hip thrust machine
Most hip thrust machines run a single lever. Both hips push one arm, and the strong side quietly does the work for the weak one. You never find out.
The Phoenix Hip Press runs two independent arms. Push both together and it trains like any hip press, just with the load split evenly across both hips. Split the work and each side has to carry its own plates. That is how you find a left to right imbalance, and it is how you fix one. Rehab facilities, athletes coming back from a hamstring or hip injury, and lifters who want balanced glute development all get a tool the single lever cannot give them.

Setting up in seconds
Sit back against the pad and set the back pad and foot platform for your leg length. Pull the padded lap bar down over your hips. Load plates from the seat. Drive through the heels, squeeze at the top, control the way down. To train one side, load one arm and push with that hip only. The fixed arc does the rest, so a new member gets the same clean hip extension as a coach.
Gen 3 is coming
The next generation of the Phoenix Hip Press adds shoulder pads over the top of the backrest. They pin your shoulders down so you stop creeping up the pad when the plates go on, and the force has one way out: through your hips. Hip Press questions
What is a hip press machine?
A hip press is a plate loaded machine that loads the hip thrust pattern without a barbell or a bench. You sit against a back pad, set your feet on the platform, pull a padded lap bar over your hips and drive up. The drive path is fixed to the correct hip arc, so the glutes take the load on every rep. The Phoenix Hip Press is bilateral, with two independent arms.
Is a hip press machine better than barbell hip thrusts?
For a commercial floor, yes. A barbell hip thrust needs a bench, a bar, a platform and a pad, takes minutes to set up, and the bench slides on heavy reps. A hip press locks the arc, replaces the bar with a padded lap bar, loads from a seated position and needs no spotter. Members train heavier, cleaner and faster. Barbell hip thrusts still work, they just cost more floor space and more setup time.
Can you train one leg at a time on the Phoenix hip press?
Yes. The Phoenix Hip Press has two independent arms. Load both and drive together for heavy bilateral sets, or load one side and train a single hip. That is how you find and fix a left to right strength imbalance, which a single lever hip thrust machine cannot show you.
What is the difference between a bilateral hip press and a single lever hip thrust machine?
A single lever machine has one arm that both hips push together, so the strong side can quietly do the work for the weak side. A bilateral hip press like the Phoenix has two arms that move independently. You can train both together or one at a time, which matters for rehab, return to sport and balanced glute development.
What muscles does a hip press work?
Glutes first, then hamstrings and the rest of the posterior chain. The fixed hip arc keeps the load on the hips rather than the lower back, which is why it is the go to machine for glute focused programming.
Is the Phoenix Hip Press plate loaded?
Yes. It is plate loaded, with no weight stack to service and no cable to stretch. Plates go on from a seated position, so a member can load between sets without getting up or asking for help.
Is the Phoenix Hip Press built for commercial gyms?
Yes. It is a commercial steel frame with a powder coat finish, plate loaded so there is nothing to service, and built to run all day on a busy floor. It is specified for commercial gyms, glute focused studios, and strength and rehab facilities.
What is the Hip Press Gen 3?
Gen 3 is the next generation of the Phoenix Hip Press, announced October 2026. It adds shoulder pads over the top of the backrest that pin your shoulders in place, so you stop sliding up the pad under heavy load. Dimensions, pricing and launch date are announced at launch. Read the announcement and join the launch list on the Product Updates blog.
What colours can I get the Hip Press in?
Standard finish is a satin black frame with black upholstery. Through the Build Your Finish picker on the product page you can choose from Any RAL frame colour and 6 upholstery colours, with standard, contrast or diamond stitch, for a branded fit-out.
Is the Phoenix Hip Press made in Vietnam?
Yes. The Phoenix Hip Press is designed and built in Vietnam by Phoenix Strength Co, the original Vietnamese strength equipment supplier, in production since 2016. Vietnam origin documents are supplied with every shipment, so it is not caught in the China specific tariffs applied by the United States and some other markets.
